Meanwhile, EJS's entire engineering staff had been called into work late Saturday evening and Sunday morning to design a clamshell expansion joint that would perform as well as the original. With the customer’s approval, the appropriate material was sourced and flown into San Diego on Monday. The finished bellows was formed and shipped overnight to the site in Louisiana.
The EJS Field crew was dispatched to meet the replacement bellows and their tools at the St. James Plant to begin the repair. Despite the adverse weather, (the EJS crew worked right up until Tropical Storm Isidore hit land in Louisiana) EJS Field Services installed a complex part in an elevated location to the complete satisfaction of the customer and the QA/QC personnel on site.
